HP and MTV link up for global design competition

LONDON - HP and MTV are launching a global design competition, called 'Take Action Make Art', challenging young people around the world to create graphics for a special edition HP notebook PC.

The competition will be promoted by on-air and online activities across MTV's global network, directing viewers to a customised MTV and HP .

Entrants are encouraged to submit ideas from subjects they are passionate about such as fashion, music, the environment or peace.

The winner will be selected by a panel consisting of Shaun White, snowboarding Olympic gold medal winner and one of the "achievers" featured in HP's "The computer is personal again" marketing campaign; HP designers; members of the MTV creative team; and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners ad agency.

The winning submission will be used in the design of a special edition HP Pavilion notebook PC and the winner will be invited to attend the MTV Europe Music Awards in Munich in November.

The launch of the competition follows the announcement of the second series of reality TV show 'Meet or Delete', created by MTV and HP, which follows students who look for potential partners based upon the contents of their hard drive.

David Rome, vice-president of marketing communications at HP, said: "We are challenging youths to develop something more than just cool, hip designs. We want young people to show us what is personal to them by incorporating that thought into the design itself."

Melisa Quinoy, executive vice-president in Europe of Viacom Brand Solutions International, said: "This initiative extends our global partnership with HP and underscores the success of the recent 'Meet or Delete' series which is premiering now across the globe."
