The second Homecoming Scotland festival encompasses the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in July and the 40th Ryder Cup, to be staged at Gleneagles in September.
Now Fife Council is urging event organisers to apply for funding to run events showcasing the region.
Fife’s cultural partnership and event strategy manager Linda Temple said: "The council would like as many events organisers as possible to come forward and apply for this opportunity.
"Homecoming 2014 is a major year-long celebration and we know that Fife has a key role to play in that too."
The deadline for applying for funding from the council is 15 April, and the aim is to encourage events that celebrate the region’s food and drink, natural resources as well as its creativity, culture and ancestral heritage.
The Homecoming Scotland 2014 festival will build on focus years, including the Year of Natural Scotland 2013, which launched this week at the National Geographic store in London.
Homecoming Scotland 2014 is a government initiative managed by EventScotland, which is a part of VisitScotland.
It aims to help the tourism and events industries to demonstrate the important role they play in delivering growth to Scotland’s economy.
The first Homecoming Scotland festival was held in 2009, the year marking the 250th anniversary of the birth of national poet Robert Burns.
