Heathrow unveils sound emitting luggage trolley

Heathrow Airport has today (4 June) unveiled a golden baggage trolley inspired by the Royal state coaches used by the Queen, which is complete with speakers that play the national anthem.

Whenever the trolley’s handle is pressed, 'God Save The Queen' plays from its in-built speakers.

The trolley features a golden frame complete with floral motifs, baroque sculptures of cherubs, royal standard red velvet lining complete with gold tassel braid, bejewelled crowns and an original Heathrow Coat of Arms.

The one-of-a-kind baggage trolley celebrates the airport’s first birthday of Terminal 2: The Queen’s Terminal, as well as its longstanding associations with the monarchy.

It is the work of a team of British designers, who transformed a regular Heathrow trolley into a special birthday edition fit for transporting the Queen’s luggage. They drew on Her Majesty's collection of carriages, phanteons, broughams and barouches for design inspiration.

As part of its Terminal 2 celebrations the airport will also host regal arts and craft activities for children, and there will be a string quartet as well as appearances from the Beefeaters.

Normand Boivin, chief operating officer at Heathrow, said: "Heathrow is a proudly British airport. Exactly one year ago today, Terminal 2 officially opened its doors. We wanted to commemorate this proud occasion by providing our passengers with an eccentric and quintessentially British addition to the terminal.

"We have a long association with Her Majesty that stretches right back to our beginnings when the Queen opened the first passenger terminal and we wanted to celebrate the birthday milestone with a symbol of this."

The golden luggage trolley will remain on public display until the end of June.
