Lewis, who has been with AOL for nearly five years, was appointed as the first head of agency sales at AOL in August 2001 from his position of director of advertising sales at The National Magazine Company's Esquire magazine.
He reported to Andy Jonesco, senior vice-president for audience at AOL, and was tasked with creating better agency relationships between AOL and media agencies.
AOL UK divides its sales department into three groups -- agency sales, client sales and business development.
The client sales team works on a category basis, identifying areas of the market to target. The agency sales team works across a portfolio of agencies.
Earlier this month, Yahoo! lost Mark Chippendale, its vice-president of European sales, to News International where he is due to become its media director with a remit to combine responsibility for all commercial revenues across newspapers, the internet and mobile platforms as part of a new iniatiative for the newspaper publisher.
Chippendale replaced David Emin, who left News International in March to take the position of director of advertising at Mirror Group Newspapers.
Although contacted, Yahoo! refused to confirm the appointment of Lewis. AOL was not available for comment.
