LONDON - Halfords is considering a bid for arts and craft specialist HobbyCraft, according to reports.

The car parts and bicycle retailer is looking at HobbyCraft as a potential acquisition to complement its existing business, according to the and The .

HobbyCraft is also said to be looking to quadruple its store base. With just 45 outlets, it is looking at a target of 180 stores.

In the year to 22 February 2009, HobbyCraft's sales increased to £68.7m, up 10.6% compared with the previous year. Pre-tax profit was up 67%, from £3.2m to £5.4m.

The family-owned business stocks more than 35,000 arts and crafts products, including kits for jewellery-making and sewing, and says it caters for more than 250 different craft activities.
