Hachette Filipacchi mulls US launch for Red Magazine

LONDON - Hachette Filipacchi is considering exporting a number of its UK publications to the US and women's magazine Red could be one of those making an appearance on newsstands.

Hachette US president and CEO Jack Kliger has said that the company is looking at launches that would fit in with his stable of lifestyle titles, which include Elle and Car & Driver, but has not yet confirmed that Red is one of the candidates.

A team of dedicated staff in the US are working on the development projects, and if they are given the green light, US versions of Red and a new sports title for men could be launched next year.

Red was launched in the UK in 1998 as a join venture between Hachette and Emap. Hachette acquired the sole publishing rights, along with those of Elle, after the dissolution of the deal in July last year.

The latest round of ABC figures show Red's circulation up 3.6% year on year in the UK at 189,857.
