H&M 'in talks' with Madonna for modelling role

LONDON - Madonna is reportedly in talks to become the new face of high street fashion chain Hennes & Mauritz, taking over from Kate Moss who was dropped earlier this year.

According to media reports in Sweden, where the brand is based, Madonna is negotiating a contract to follow the likes of Kylie Minogue, Claudia Schiffer, Sophie Dahl and most famously Moss, who was dropped following revelations of cocaine abuse.

At 47 years old, Madonna would be the oldest face for the firm to date, and a bold choice given that the brand's key customers are teenage girls.

Although refusing to confirm the report a spokeswoman did tell Stockholm-based newspaper Expressen that "we like to surprise our customers".

Madonna is understood to be close friends with fashion designer Stella McCartney, whose collection for the chain late last year attracted huge publicity after selling out in minutes in many branches.

The singer, who is currently playing live in the US on her Confessions tour, has angered religious groups after appearing on a crucifix on stage wearing a crown of thorns. She later said the stunt was to encourage the audience to give to charity.
