Grey scoops November Anna for Five's Brand and Ross ad

LONDON - Grey London's ad for Five's programme about the prank phone calls made by Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand has scooped the November ad of the month in the Awards for National Newspaper Advertising.

The ad for Five's 'Russell & Ross: What the **** was all that about?' programme featuring Georgina Baillie, the subject of the prank calls made by Brand and Ross to her grandfather, actor  Andrew Sachs, was created by Grey London creative team Andy Amadeo and Nils Leonard.

It shows an image of Baillie in a bikini with the caption: "Now we'll give Georgina the chance to screw 'em both."

Gerry Moira, Annas judge and chairman and director of creativity at Euro RSCG London, said: "Best use of topicality and controversy that only newspapers can bring to the mix is Five with their championing of the fragrant and much-maligned Georgina Baillie.

"The 'Never Mind the Bollocks' art direction just tips it into first place. 'Cash through chaos' as we used to say."

Moira nominated six further ads for the awards: Asda's 'Why pay more this Christmas?' by Fallon; Fiat's 'Donkey' by Krow; Gordon's 'Friday night is Gordon's' by Bartle Bogle Hegarty; Mars Chocolate's 'Plumber' and 'Sheep shearer' by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO; and Skoda UK's 'Retailers' by Fallon.

The latest seven nominations complete the line-up for the 2008 Annas with a total of 69 ads nominated to compete for the £25,000 top prize at the annual awards ceremony on January 28.

Bartle Bogle Hegarty has the most nominations of any agency, with 14 of the 69 ads nominated including seven of its Heathrow Terminal 5 ads for British Airways.

DDB London is second with eight ads, while Fallon and Wieden & Kennedy are in joint third position with five ads each.
