Created by Jason Lawes and Sam Cartmell of ad agency The Red Brick Road, the ad features the pun "Fruit & Wedge" in bold type at the top of the page.
Beneath this is an image of a bag of Tesco's Market Value carrots and Tesco's prices are compared with those at Aldi. The end-line reads: "Britain's Biggest Discounter", highlighting Tesco's bid to out-discount the German store.
According to Anna judge Ed Morris, the executive creative director of Lowe London, the ad is a smart response to the credit crunch.
Morris said: "Sod the credit crunch, it's not war, famine or plague. It's not Aids or the discovery of a new cancer. It's only finance.
"If you worship money enough to feel like the world's coming to an end right now, your life was never worth living any way. Cheer up, take it on the chin, tighten the purse strings and get on with it.
"This ad helps me do just that. And I hate puns. I've fired people for writing them, but this shameless and completely daft little belter made me grin when I needed one most."
Anna's annual awards will take place in January 2009, when the team behind the ad the judges deem to be the best of the monthly winners will receive a £25,000 cash prize.
