More than 750,000 people came to see around 50 large ships berthed at Greenock as part of a five-week sailing race from Ireland to Sweden.
As part of the festival, Charity Sail Inverclyde organised parades, street theatre, markets, spa experiences, RIB boat rides with Glasgow Sea Safaris and performances from artists such as Scottish singer Lulu.
The report by Ekos found that the events generated £24 million across Scotland, including £10.4 million in the local region of Inverclyde, £8.6 million in the West of Scotland and £5.2 million in the rest of the country.
The average daily spend of day-trip visitors was between £17 and £24, and increased to between £37 and £60 for overnight visitors, who made up 20% of guests.
For every pound of public sector investment, the event generated £12 of return.
