Purity Staffing

"Nearly all the team have been on accredited training courses"

With 1,500 registered field employees on agency Purity’s books, its specialist staffing division is devoted to making staff feel part of the community. Who is hired by the company is crucial to this goal, as Mark Dunn, client services director, explains: "We employ people who are able to work in a close-knit team and under pressure. They also need to be trustworthy and energetic: this is not a nine-to-five job, and that’s reflected in the team’s characters."

While Purity Staffing is a big organisation, Dunn stresses that employees are welcome to have their say through weekly forums with senior management, who he describes as "very approachable" in terms of one-to-one discussions. Employees who work weekends or evenings are encouraged to take back this time in lieu, and working remotely is an option. "It offers a fast-track to success if targets are hit, making everyone feel they have a vested personal interest in growth," says Dunn.

Perhaps the most unique aspect of the business’s set-up is the dedication shown to staff by their employer through external training courses. Nearly all the staffing team undertake NVQ apprentice training in business, up to Level 5, or specific account management courses. Individual performance plans are designed for each person and frequently reassessed to ensure development is being effectively managed.

"Not many agencies give staff these opportunities," says Dunn. "We’re giving people the chance to learn and work without going to university, which often puts them ahead of the game in their careers when compared with graduates."
