Google TV encounters opposition from US networks

Three top US networks have blocked Google TV's access to some of their hit TV shows because, according to reports, they are concerned that the new service will undermine their revenue streams.

Powerhouse networks ABC, NBC and CBS have all told the Wall Street Journal that they were blocking content from the platform.

None of the broadcasters gave a reason for their decisions, but according to the WSJ it is thought they are worried Google TV will cannibalise existing revenue streams.

The move means hit shows like 'The Today Show', 'The Office' and 'CSI' will not be able to be viewed though Google TV.

Google said its TV platform will create "a new way to think about TV" by combining current TV programming and the open web into a single entertainment platform.

Google TV will offer marketers a vast amount of data and will deliver opportunities for highly targeted ads when it launches in the UK, according to industry experts.
