Google enters property market through Maps service

Google has launched a service aimed at helping house-hunters, in a move that could have ramifications for popular online services like Rightmove and FindaProperty.com.

The search giant has linked with estate agents to show locations of properties for sale or rent on its . The feature is aimed at helping consumers find properties in specific locations.

Countrywide, Zoopla and Spicer Haart are among the nine companies to sign-up to Google's service and more are expected to follow.

Google said that by adding property listings to Google Maps the company is "putting everything together" for house-hunters in one place.

While it is common for estate agents to pay fees to display properties on internet aggregators, Google's service is free of charge.

Rightmove and FindaProperty.com both rely on Google Maps to display the location of properties.
