at a nominal price of £2.39 and has now been downloaded 101,457 times, according to figures up to the beginning of yesterday (22 February).

Designed by an in-house team and built by 2ergo, the Guardian App showcases news, comment, features, photo galleries and audio from guardian.co.uk and benefits from featuring in Apple's current TV ad campaign.

Sales of the Guardian app have slowed considerably since reaching 70,000 in its first month, but it continues to generate steady additional revenue despite being at odds with the Guardian's current free approach to the web.

Emily Bell, director of Digital Content, Guardian News & Media, called breaking the 100,000 download barrier in little over two months "an enormous achievement".

She said: "The feedback we received at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week from both the industry and users was very complimentary, and we are thrilled that the app is being showcased in Apple's latest television campaign."
