In January, Rix will part ways with GMG Regional Media, publisher of the Manchester Evening News, to take the role of chief executive officer with Catchpole Communications.
Sharrock is being promoted from his current role as chief financial officer with GMG Regional Media, which owns Surrey & Berkshire Media, publisher of Reading Evening Post and Surrey Advertiser.
In further moves, Ruth Spratt has been named as managing director for Manchester Evening News Media, which controls the Manchester Evening News, its online news portal and digital television station Channel M.
Spratt is currently digital and broadcast director of GMG Regional Media and has been with the group since 1996 having previously held positions in the print, broadcast and digital sides of the company.
Alex Davies has been appointed as chief information officer for GMG Regional Media, and will manage the company's digital platforms.
The final move sees Paul O'Halloran appointed managing director for Surrey & Berkshire Media.

GMG Regional Media has had a difficult year in the midst of the declining ad market. In June it was reported that classified ad sales fell by 8.1% while display ads increased only 1% year on year. Operating profit also fell 36% to £14.3m in 2008 year on year.
