GCap Media forms national classic hits network

LONDON - GCap Media has formed a new national classic hits network called Gold following its acquisition of Classic Gold Digital from UBC in April this year.

The 18 AM and associated digital Classic Gold radio stations will merge with GCap's seven existing AM and digital Capital Gold stations to form one single network which will go live on-air and online from 7pm on Friday next week. (3 August)

Aimed at ABC1 35-54 year olds the networked station, which will have the strapline "It's all about the music", will include specialist music shows, artist interviews, celebrity podcasts and guest presenters.

There will be four hours of local programming every afternoon with locally provided traffic, news and weather with the news coverage increasing to three minutes per hour.

It is thought Gold, whose development will be overseen by station director Andy Turner, will have an audience of about 1.7m adults with 12m listening hours.

The news comes as radio stalwart Tony Blackburn announces he will be leaving Classic Gold on 3 August.

He has said he is "in discussions with GCap about a series of new shows".
