The company has said the restructure will mean that Gallowglass' group managing director Nick Grecian will be able to focus his energies on extending the group’s operation in the UK and overseas.

Sigsworth joined Gallowglass in 2002 as part of the northern management team co-ordinating crewing operations for the Manchester Commonwealth Games. In 2008 he became senior regional manager and has since had a major involvement in key projects, including the London 2012 Olympics, Glastonbury and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The move follows the recent appointment of head of HR, Chris Parry-Jones to the Gallowglass Group board.

Grecian said: "Crewing has been our core business for the 18 years of our existence, and by extending our services in recent years to include stand-alone health and safety, training and sustainability companies we have strengthened our offering and our skill sets to be able to provide integrated support services for corporate events, exhibitions, festivals and official ceremonies.

"As the group continues to extend its reach, it has become essential to ensure that crewing is led by a dedicated individual with all the experience and focus that Jon can bring to the role."

He added Gallowglass is looking to extend its geographical footprint in the next few years, with plans to open an office in Australia ahead of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Gallowglass Group has bases throughout England and Scotland, as well as Spain, France, Monaco and Qatar.

Sigsworth said: "To be equipped to provide large numbers of trained qualified staff on demand – to meet any operational brief from assembling stage sets to full site management – requires a strong management structure, state-of-the art systems and operational discipline.

"I'm excited at the prospect of taking over the reins of Gallowglass Crewing and ensuring that we maintain the levels of management and service required by, and delivered throughout the London 2012 Olympics."
