Gale set to leave BBC for Five

LONDON - Ben Gale, commissioning editor for factual features and formats at the BBC, is expected to take up the post of director of programmes at Five.

Gale has been in his current role since January, having previously focused on commissioning new formats for BBC Three.

Five would neither confirm nor deny reports that Gale was being lined up for the role, which Jay Hunt is vacating to take up the position of controller of BBC1.

Five is expected to use Gale's experience in entertainment programming to develop the schedules on Five and digital channel Five Life. He helped to create BBC Three hit shows The Baby Borrowers, The Real Hustle and Spendaholics.

It is believed that Gale is in final negotiations with Five over his contract and start date.
