The European and US Ryder Cup teams, captained by Paul McGinley and Tom Watson, will form the centrepiece of the concert as they are presented on stage to an audience of 12,000 at the SSE Hydro arena ahead of The 2014 Ryder Cup, which is being held at Gleneagles on 23-28 September.
In what will provide a fitting welcome to Scotland for one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, the concert will also see golf, music and the arts unite.
Taking place on 24 September, the concert includes performances from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera and the National Theatre of Scotland, who will collaborate for the first time with contemporary artists including Jake Bugg, Texas, Twin Atlantic and Nina Nesbitt. Further acts are yet to be announced.
Curated by creative director Kim Gavin, whose portfolio includes the London 2012 closing ceremony, Take That's Progress Live Tour in 2011 and the Concert for Diana in 2007, the concert is a signature event within the Homecoming Scotland programme.
Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, lead agency for delivering The 2014 Ryder Cup on behalf of Scotland, said: "The Ryder Cup is an incredibly exciting, important event for Scotland, and we wanted to welcome the two teams to Scotland, the home of golf, in a special way. Therefore, we had to create a celebration concert that was unique, bringing together in one place the culture, history and sporting tradition of our remarkable country.
"The concept of merging the classical with the contemporary is inspired, stirring the audience to embrace all sides of Scottish culture, and of course, golf is a huge part of that."
