Future of Battersea Power Station event space uncertain

Battersea Power Station yesterday went back up for sale, after controllers Real Estate Opportunities (ROI) were unable to strike a deal with investors to develop the site.

ROI’s £5bn development plans, submitted in August 2009, included new residential housing, shopping facilities, a park and provision for an event space within the grounds of the power station.

by local residents, and the location was tipped to be one of London’s best new event spaces.

The derelict power station currently houses the Boiler Room, a temporary events venue built by Arena Structures.

A spokesperson from Industri Management declined to comment on what effect a new buyer might have on the future of the venue, saying that it’s simply too early to say.

Since its launch in March 2010, the Boiler House has hosted events ranging from Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts to an engagement party for Bernie Ecclestone’s granddaughter. It’s even been transformed into , and this year made it into Event’s Top 20 Venues list.
