The Funday Times targets teens in non-cartoon overhaul

LONDON - The Sunday Times' children's supplement, The Funday Times, has undergone a redesign to appeal to the older teen market by dropping its front-page cartoon in favour of a lead feature and celebrity interview.

The supplement, which is 15 years old, now looks similar in style to teen magazines like Sugar and Smash Hits, with an emphasis on celebrity gossip and interviews with boy bands like McFly.

The redesign includes a new masthead, more entertainment and more interactive games and puzzles with features on sport, books and an educational nature and animals section.

Dave Coombs, editor of The Funday Times, said: "We have really taken our readers' suggestions into account during the redesign. They have said they wanted more entertainment and interactive games and puzzles, so we have introduced changes and more to make The Funday Times the best children's newspaper."

The Funday Times launched in 1989 as a complete children's newspaper. The new-look supplement will debut on September 12.
