The interactive TV version of the is fully integrated with its online database, giving the 6.7m households already hooked up to Sky the chance to search for acquaintances from schools, universities and clubs, as well as work colleagues.
It is hoped that the link-up will expand Friends Reunited's user base, which already numbers 9.2m registered users in the UK.
Steve Pankhurst, who founded Friends Reunited with his wife Julie in October 2000, said: "The launch of Friends Reunited on Sky Active opens up the door to more members, which potentially means even more of our users will be reunited with their old friends and family.
"A large number of people have Sky but don't have internet access, so it seemed an obvious platform."
Sky Active viewers, like online visitors to the site, do not have to register to browse the database. However, the interactive TV version of the service will cost 5p a minute to use, and it costs £1 to send an email to anyone registered on the database.
Viewers can access Friends Reunited when tuned to Sky One, Sky News, Sky Sports or Sky Movies -- but not Sky Box Office -- and it is hoped that the new service will repeat the success of previous interactive content.
Ian Shepherd, managing director of Sky Interactive, said: "Over 70% of Sky digital customers have used interactive services, with the dating and games services some of the most popular. We anticipate Friends Reunited being a big hit with Sky Active users."
