Free Scottish style magazine Vibe gets national outing

LONDON - Vibe, the year-old Scottish style magazine available free at hip bars and clubs, is expanding its distribution to the rest of the UK.

The bi-monthly title's new issue, featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the cover, will now be available in cities including Manchester, Leeds and London, expanding from its original markets of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen.

Vibe, which features a mix of music, culture and lifestyle coverage, is published by Vibe Media, and started life as a showcase of the agency's design skills. However, the magazine has taken off as a commercial venture, with advertisers including Nike, Puma and Sony in the current issue, which has a print run of 20,000.

John O'Rourke, director of Vibe, said: "In order to protect the integrity of Vibe and our advertisers' brands, we are not interested in simply squeezing in as many ads as possible. Instead, the objective is to produce a high-quality magazine that incorporates leading-edge design that would not look out of place on a newsagent's shelf."

The title is distributed in style bars, designer clothes shops, record shops and hairdressers.
