The outdoor and direct marketing campaign sees the FCO teaming up with the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) to encourage British tourists to be vigilant when out drinking.

One leaflet says: ‘There is another side to paradise. Rape happens on holiday too'.

Posters will be placed in bars and hotels across Mediterranean resorts encouraging consumers to ‘Know their limits'.

In Greece, beer mats and frisbees carry warnings such as: ‘Drinking makes you more vulnerable to violent crime'.

Tour operator Club18-30 has started proving travel advice in air ticket wallets and hotel welcome packs.
