The TV, radio and outdoor activity is targeted at both men and women. The female-focused poster says, ‘Let your hair down, not your guard', while reminding the reader that alcohol features in two thirds of all rape cases.

Another poster targeted at males shows a man sitting in a prison cell with the line ‘Rape: Short word - Long sentence'.

‘Ultimately we want to prevent rape from occurring in the first place, by arming potential victims with key advice on how to keep themselves safe,' said Cheshire Chief Constable Dave Whatton, who is leading the national campaign.

‘But we are also aware of the sad reality that many victims of rape remain silent.'
