The league is suing Carlton Communications and Granada for £178.5m over its failure to pay the full amount for rights to screen football matches. It is also preparing a £500m case against ITV for damages.
A payment of £89m by ITV Digital was due on August 1, but it will not be paid. The case has been set prior to this date, after a High Court judge heard that many clubs face financial hardship if the league is not paid.
Yesterday, it was revealed that Bradford City football club had been placed in administration. Although the move was not directly due to ITV Digital's collapse, the administrators for Bradford said that the football marketplace had "dramatically changed" after the pay-TV company's demise.
