Football League creates buzz around free entry promotion

LONDON - The Football League is turning to viral email marketing and video podcasting to tell fans about its free admission for kids offer.

Sixty out of 70 League clubs will be offering free or heavily discounted entry to children this season, the second in the league's "Fans of the Future" initiative. Almost 40 clubs, including Leicester City and Southampton, will offer Kids Go Free schemes at every home match.

With the first fixtures kicking off this Saturday, the league has created a campaign featuring its ambassador Chris Kamara, the former Swindon Town and Brentford player turned football pundit for Sky.

In the video podcast, which will be available on the Football League website, iTunes and YouTube this week, Kamara encourages viewers to support their local team.

The viral email is modelled on the famous Lord Kitchener First World War Army recruitment poster, using the slogan "The Coca-Cola Football League Wants You" beneath Kamara's picture.

It will be sent to half a million supporters and encourages them to recruit a friend by customising the poster and sending it to them.
