Created by Alvenda, the store allows users to order flowers and gifts from the retailer without leaving the social network. Tools including birthday calendars, event notifications, and group gift giving options will be integrated in the future.

Jim McCann, chief executive and company founder claimed the store is the first time a retailer has built such functionality. The company has a habit of making a point of being among the first to do things online, having launched its online presence in 1992 and becoming the first transactional retailer on AOL three-years later.

The store accepts payment by credit card, and 1-800-Flowers.com said it will sign up to Facebook's payment system once it becomes available.

When Facebook users become a fan of the store they are given a discount code to encourage purchases through the fan page. The retailer currently has a Facebook customer base of just 1530 fans.
