Five US and Five Life unveil autumn schedules

LONDON - Five's two new digital channels Five US and Five Life have unveiled their autumn schedules with the first broadcasts set for mid October.

Five US, dedicated to US programming, will launch on Sunday October 15, airing daily between 4pm and 1am, followed by Five Life, which launches on Monday October 16 broadcasting daily between 6am and 11pm.

The channel will feature a mix of US drama, films, documentaries, sport and includes cop drama 'Shark' starring James Woods as Sebastian Stark, a top celebrity defence attorney in Los Angeles who makes a life-changing decision to switch sides and become a prosecution lawyer.

Five US will debut thriller 'Vanished', which tracks the search for Sara Collins, a senator's wife who goes missing. Her background is uncovered as the manhunt continues and the story unravels.

Also screened is 'Conviction' a thirteen-part law drama from Emmy Award-winner Dick Wolf, focusing on the busy lives of young Manhattan assistant district attorneys and the cases they confront.

'Nightmares and Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King' is an eight-part chiller based on the author's short stories and stars William H Macy, William Hurt and Tom Berenger, and will take its place on Five US in the autumn.

Dan Chambers, Five's director of programmes, said: "We are delighted to have the latest Stephen King adaptation on Five US and to have such incredible talent taking part in each episode".

Five Life will target a female audience, screening drama series 'Love My Way'. This 10-part series centres on the complicated web of relationships of main character Frankie Paige.

The channel will also screen daily talk show import 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', presented by the award-winning lesbian comedienne.

Chambers added: "Ellen DeGeneres' humour and approach to interviews is intelligent and emotionally engaging -- she is perfect for Five Life."

The channel will give viewers their first chance to see 'Home and Away' episodes and a special weekly omnibus will also feature on Five Life.

'Supermodel Extra' is lined up for the channel and has all the backstage gossip with behind-the-scenes access to Five's second series of 'Make Me a Supermodel'.

The channels will launch on Freeview to start with and will roll out to cable and satellite later.

Yesterday, Five named Nick Thorogood as the controller of the two digital channels.

He was previously editor of ITV daytime, a position he'd held since 2004. Prior to that, he was head of lifestyle channels at UKTV.
