Five lines up adventure and travel in autumn roster

LONDON - Five has unveiled its autumn schedule revealing a wide variety of new history, factual and entertainment programmes including 'Dangerous Adventures for Boys', based on the best selling book and the return of unlikely explorer comedian Paul Merton.

One of its new shows is a three-part series called '1968 Unseen' -- a collection of interviews by broadcasting legend Bernard Braden with some of the most iconic faces of the 1960s.

Five will show the interviews from the never-before-seen archive, which was recorded at Braden's own expense, with celebrities such as Peter Cook, Cilla Black, Sean Connery and Lulu.

Ben Gale, Five's director of programmes, said: "I'm delighted we have secured '1968 Unseen', it's a fascinating insight into one of the pivotal years of the 20th Century and still resonates today. It is a welcome addition to our rich autumn line-up."

'Dangerous Adventures for Boys' sees famous dads and their sons mount exciting expeditions in a journey of adventure and self discovery.

The six one-hour programmes feature Martin Kemp, Vic Reeves, Todd Carty and Lord Brocket, among others.

Produced in conjunction with the best-selling book, 'Dangerous Book for Boys', the series traces the journeys of historical icons from Captain Scott to Nelson, exploring the relationship between boys and their fathers.

Following the success of 'Paul Merton in China', Britain's most unlikely explorer, Paul Merton returns in 'Paul Merton in India', with his unique perspective on the vast continent.

The five, hour-long programmes from Tiger Aspect see Merton hanging out with holy men, musicians, criminals and a host of ill-tempered animals including delinquent monkeys and spitting cobras.

Also new to the channel, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and a panel of green-fingered experts will scrutinise eight of the country's most extraordinary gardens in 'Own Britain's Best Home and Garden'.

Architecture and property is also centre stage this autumn, with Charlie Luxton fronting 'Behind Closed Doors' -- a new, seven-part series from Reef Television which gives viewers access to usually secret buildings like The Bank of England and The Treasury.

Luxton casts his expert eye over these and other iconic landmarks, some of which viewers can visit as part of the Open House event in their area. He also hosts 'Best House on the Street', a new home improvement series about home-owners who snoop around neighbours' houses for inspiration before committing themselves to changing their home in an effort to turn their property into the best house on the street.
