Five brings live European football to the iPhone

LONDON - Five has released an Apple iPhone and iPod Touch app that will show all the live Uefa Europa League matches the broadcaster has rights for, starting with tomorrow night's Celtic versus Rapid Vienna tie.

The app, which costs £3.99, has been developed with online TV outfit Livestation and works via Wi-Fi and 3g connections.

In addition to live streaming of all Five's games throughout 2009-2010 competition, a weekly highlights programme will also be available.

Five's head of digital media, Jonathan Lewis, the new service exemplified "Five's ambition to extend the reach of our long-form, ad-supported video content to as many platforms as possible, with the aim of generating additional incremental advertising revenues".

Five currently operates a catch-up service Demand Five, and is in the process of creating new content destinations including Holy Soap and FiveFWD.

Five is also a partner in Project Canvas, the joint venture between the BBC, ITV and BT.
