Event takes a look back at five recent tech-based activations, including Neilson Active Holidays, Jaguar at Wimbledon and Yorkshire Tea.

Holiday company STA Travel recently carried out a UK wide ‘Find Your State of Play’ bus tour, where passers-by were invited to don an Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, which offered 360-degree experiences of US cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco. They were then able to book trips with special deals in a pop-up shop in the top deck of the bus.

Travellers through Stockholm Arlanda airport were able to experience the temperature of their chosen destination before they arrived, thanks to The Climate Portal. The experience mirrored the weather conditions of popular holiday destinations such as Dubai and San Francisco, and remained in situ throughout the summer.

Yorkshire Tea’s VR cricket experience

Alongside the Ashes test series this summer, Yorkshire Tea and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) devised ‘A Proper Ball’ virtual reality experience for cricket fans. Participants could put on an Oculus Rift headset in order to experience what it would be like to face three balls from England fast bowler James Anderson.

Jaguar will use a range of technologies to measure audience emotion during Wimbledon

Wimbledon’s official car partner, Jaguar launched a #FeelWimbledon campaign for the Championships. The concept involved the use of sensors to measure the excitement of the crowd through biometric wristbands worn by spectators. Sensors on the ground also measured crowd movement and audio levels.

Neilson Active Holidays' VR experience 'amazed and awed' Brits

Earlier this summer potential travellers were offered the chance to 'Have a Go Before You Go', at a Neilson Active Holidays roadshow. Oculus Rift headsets offered two settings - a 360-degree windsurfing experience in the Mediterranean waters and a trip to Andorra, where people could ski down a snow-capped mountain.
