The report quizzed more than 500 event professionals, over the past three months, to gauge their opinions on what key challenges are facing the industry, with the results published in its Events Industry Survey 2015 this week.

Technology was highlighted as a particular concern, as well as the ability to recruit suitable employees. Fifty-five per cent of those quizzed viewed sourcing the right talent as the single biggest challenge in their business.

Respondents also had concerns that their roles were either changing or were set to change, with pressure being felt by production teams to deliver more digitally innovative events.

Technology was reported to be an issue across the board with the survey finding that more than a third (35%) of those asked felt using technology and delivering innovation was their biggest challenge.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom however, as many felt technology was also having a positive impact on business, with 22.6% stating that IT, technology and telecoms events were likely to be a source of future growth.

The potential for acquisitions was also flagged up as something to watch in the future, as big players seek to expand and private equity money is being used to build strong event portfolios, said Caselton Clark.

In terms of the production of events, 44% said the main challenge was finding good quality speakers, while operationally 57% felt innovation was the main hurdle to overcome.
