Webster, who will become managing director for the radio station, said the focus would be to beef up ad revenues on Invicta's digital offering, as well as that of sister station Gold. He will also be in charge of development and growth at GCap's other digital stations in the area - Classic FM, Xfm and Planet Rock.
He said: “Kent is a competitive marketplace already in radio, while online has grown in recent times. There is a challenge from migrating from analogue radio through to other digital platforms such as DAB and online.”
Webster said he would be looking to maintain Invicta’s recent strong performance. "It is a great station already and one of the biggest in GCap, and we want to help that go forward. It is a great business in terms of the revenues it makes already.”
Webster, who will take up his post at GCap Media on 19 November, is being replaced as managing director by First Radio’s sales director Tony Mellor.
Speaking to Media Week, Mellor said he would like to start making more money out of the growing number of listeners who are migrating to the firms’ station websites.
"We have more stations than ever, and we now have lots of digital outlets and we want to drive that forward," he said. "All of our stations have websites and radio can drive traffic to online – and there is a commercial opportunity."
Prior to his First Radio role, Mellor held senior sales jobs with GCap Media and ABC Media.
