They are joined by Summer Sundae and Sunrise Celebration, as well as Festival Republic, promoter of festivals like Reading and Latitude, as early sign-ups to Powerful Thinking, the first campaign from the alliance.

Launched in April, Powerful Thinking aims to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions and drive the market for renewable energy at festivals.

At the campaign’s heart is a research project in which festivals monitor their power use over the summer, to better understand opportunities to become more energy efficient.

Low carbon power sources will be tested out, as well as new approaches to site planning and monitoring to try and develop cost-effective and low carbon solutions. The campaign also offers a toolkit for festivals and suppliers with top tips for running a greener event.

The Green Festival Alliance was launched in January and the Powerful Thinking campaign is coordinated by founding member Julie’s Bicycle.
