Findus, the food company, currently sells three varieties of the crispy pancake – chicken and bacon, minced beef and three cheese.

An online petition of over 4,500 fans convinced Findus executives to return the curry variety to supermarket shelves.

Findus launched a Facebook group in November 2009 for consumers to share nostalgic memories around the teatime favourite.

Findus agreed it would re-launch the brand, last seen on shelves in 1999, if it received 3,000 votes.

Neil Sanderson, business unit director at Findus, said: "In November last year, after seeing a surge in both online and offline 'noise' for the brand, we decided it was about time Crispy Pancakes had a social media presence so we could really take note of what our consumers had to say. We set up a Twitter site and both fans and followers soon joined up."

Crispy Pancakes were last year voted the top retro food brand in a GMTV poll.
