GuideStar, which is itself a registered charity, asked Experian to extract data from 60,000 charity reports and accounts to populate the .
So far, more than 32m items of data have been captured, checked and validated by Experian, which is also responsible for the ongoing updating of charity information to be loaded on to the GuideStar website.
The GuideStar site is intended to help the organisation promote the charity sector. It is also intended to act as a resource for the public to find out about international, national and local charities.
The project saw Experian team up with document management firm Astron, which helped to collate, check and then load a range of information on all UK charities.
Erica Roberts, chief executive at GuideStar UK, said: "We are very impressed with the service that Experian has delivered, which has ensured that data accuracy levels are consistently high. Only a company with the expertise of Experian could have accomplished such a sophisticated data extraction exercise to such a high standard."
Richard Lloyd, managing director of Experian's Business Information division, said: "This is the first venture of its kind in the UK and it is fantastic that we have been able to provide our expertise to help GuideStar UK bring together all relevant charity information into one place and, for the first time, displayed in a way that is easy for everyone to access and understand.
"Data quality and accuracy are fundamental to our work and we will continue to work with GuideStar UK to maintain the charity information website and the data it contains on an ongoing basis."
