Ex-Sky chief sets up digital advice service

Former Sky marketing director Charlie Ponsonby has launched a company called Simplifydigital that will offer consumers free and impartial advice on choosing digital TV, broadband and home telephony services.

Simplifydigital is being soft-launched this week, a week after the start of the digital TV switchover in Cumbria. It plans to increase its promotional activity from January, including links with regional newspapers and specialist magazines and websites, as the switchover process accelerates.

The service is similar to price-comparison websites but encourages users to talk to call centre staff on a free-phone number rather than use the internet. Each consultation takes about 20 minutes and the company claims that it aims to decide which service is best based on users' requirements, budget and services available in their local area.
