Organised by the Events for Namuwongo steering committee, headed up by Jane Risby Rose of UBM, Wonga for Water for Wonga day (W4W4W) will take place on 9 October coinciding with the Ugandan Independence Day. The charity has called for companies to nominate their own champion to help stage events in the lead up to and on the fundraising day.
All funds raised will go to the Events for Namuwongo water project, in association with international water aid charity Just a Drop, which hopes to bring a sustainable clean water supply to thousands within the Ugandan community. W4W4W Day is being held in order to help achieve a further £60,000 needed to implement the project.
Reed Exhibitions and Tarsus committed to supporting the water project by donating £15,000 each at the charity partnerships’ recent fundraiser, . Imago Techmedia, Global Experience Specialists, Tarsus, Excel and UBM have already nominated their own W4W4W champions.
Rose said: "Our main goal for W4W4W day is to raise awareness of the inspirational and positive impact the UK event industry is making on the community of Namuwongo. We already have a number of keen supporters organising fundraising events leading up to and on 9 October and now we are calling for more event colleagues to take the lead and organise more fundraising schemes.
"I’ve been lucky enough to visit Namuwongo recently so can say with complete confidence that the generosity of the event industry is creating a sustainable future for thousands of amazing and grateful people."
The W4W4W organising team has come up with a number of fundraising ideas, including selling t-shirts to be worn on the day and asking each organisation to have a ‘power hour’ on 9 October when the focus will be on a surge of fundraising activities that can be shared across social media.
A sponsored walk for women from Richmond to Kingston in September and a wacky wongo pub quiz are currently being planned by UBM, while Tarsus has already raised £8,000 as part of a Three Peaks Challenge.
