I got into the events industry because I always loved the buzz and excitement of the events industry. It is so rewarding when you see something come to fruition that you have worked on for months, if not years, and you get to meet the most amazing people.
I have worked here since February 2007 and remember the days of hard hat site tours and the times when my imagination had to work overtime to convey the vision of the building before we opened the doors in 2008.
I was attracted to this particular role because it was a huge project to open a brand new venue and build something from scratch. Of course this was helped by the hospitality that has been extended to me by the city of Liverpool, a city I am proud to call my home.
Not many people know that I am a language teacher from the Italian Alps, which makes my surname nigh on impossible to pronounce (and trust me I have heard them all).
If there's one thing I've learnt it’s you can’t prepare enough for an event - however much you do prepare there are always things that are unexpected, which is what makes it exciting and different every time.
The best event I've been involved in was the Liberal Democrats Autumn Conference 2010. The entire venue team from events to catering were involved in the planning and delivery as well as our stakeholders across the city who also had a huge role to play. Events of this nature are really satisfying as the entire city worked in partnership to welcome such a high profile event.
If I could do it all over again I would wear a pedometer. I must have thousands of miles clocked up from the amount of times I have literally walked the floor of every event I have managed.
The one thing I can't stand is laziness – in this industry the best events are the product of good team work.
Outside of work I spend my time cycling, listening to music and I am quite partial to a quiet night in watching a good movie.
If money were no object I would design my own house and live in it happily ever after.
The one event I will never miss is ACC Liverpool’s annual London Showcase – a great opportunity to spend an evening with clients old and new.
The recession has meant that it has made my job more challenging as clients look for increasingly innovative solutions to hosting their events on reduced budgets.
The next 12 months will be very exciting. An 8,100sqm exhibition and events complex will be added to the existing facility by 2014 meaning that we will be able to attract even larger events and manage even more challenging projects.
If I could switch places with anyone else in the industry it would be I wouldn’t. I am more than content being who I am and where I am.
