I got into the event industry because I love creating memorable experiences for people, whether it’s a surprise for a loved one or creating a large-scale event for a global brand. Also, every time I attend an event, I think of ways that I could make it better, so I wanted to bring that passion to the industry.
I have worked here since November 2013.
I was attracted to this particular role because MCM Creative Group has fantastic long-standing relationships with some of the top companies in the world. I was attracted to the amazing team and the potential to create innovative solutions for leading brands.
Not many people know that I am fluent in Spanish and that I have travelled to 52 countries to date.
The best event I’ve been involved with was The John Lewis 150 For All – this was a live show performed in front of 8,000 John Lewis Partners in Birmingham, relayed by satellite to Edinburgh and London, and online to 25,000 partners in their homes and branches. Featuring a mixture of storytelling, drama, live performances, music, film and Partner interaction, the two and a half hour event took more than eight months to plan, and was produced by a core MCM Greative Group team, supported by key suppliers.
If I could do it all over again I would make it a weekend festival of celebration. It was such a special and emotional event and all those involved at John Lewis and MCM Creative Group didn’t want it to end, so if I could, I’d make it into a large festival for all Partners with lots of surprise guests and exciting immersive brand experiences.
The one thing I can’t stand is poor event delivery.
Outside of work I spend my time having fun with family and friends, travelling the world, playing tennis and reading a great book.
If money were no object I would support all of my favourite charities in helping them achieve their missions to save endangered species and give children worldwide a brighter future by offering them access to education and health care. If there was any money left over I’d organise some amazing experiences for my family and friends and buy property in the most beautiful cities and islands around the world.
If I could switch places with anyone else in the industry it would be... I love my job and can’t imagine switching but if I had to it would probably be with Amy Brown, head of events at Google. It would be fascinating to be involved in creating events for such a technologically-advanced, forward-thinking business.
If I ruled the event industry I would merge the university and college courses currently focused individually on experiential marketing and event management to ensure that the next generation of project managers and account managers strive to innovate and deliver memorable experiences, whether they are targeting an internal corporate audience or a consumer audience.
I would work closely with the leading industry bodies to ensure that the award categories reflected excellence in this area specifically.
