Event TV: UKTV creates stunt with English Civil War Society

UKTV enlisted the help of the English Civil War Society (ECWS) for a stunt to promote history channel Yesterday's new series.

Members from the ECWS transformed into 17th century Parliamentarians, also known as Roundheads, congregated outside Shakespeare’s Globe to march across London’s Millennium Bridge.

The march was designed to promote Weekend Warriors, a new TV show celebrating the world of battle re-enactors. The ECWS is the star of the programme’s debut episode.

Adrian Wills, general manager of Yesterday, said: "Battle re-enactors are the ultimate living historians and these members of the English Civil War Society are committed to continually striving for historical authenticity in their clothing and artefacts.

"It is particularly relevant that St Paul's Cathedral is in the background as they march across Millennium Bridge. The original building was mistreated by the Parliamentarian forces, who used the nave as a stable for cavalry horses."

Annabelle Southcoat, a member of the English Civil War Society, added: "All the clothing and weapons we carried with us are modern day reproductions which we believe to be historically accurate from examining surviving pieces, records, and paintings. They are made either by our members themselves or by specialist traders."
