Big Stig was unveiled by its namesake in front of local dignitaries and Top Gear fans. It was placed adjacent to the Palace of Science and Culture in the centre of Warsaw.
Agency Taylor Herring created the ten-metre-high statue to celebrate new TV channel BBC Brit, which launches in Poland on 1 February. Made of fibreglass, Big Stig is equivalent in size to two London double-decker buses, and took a team of three sculptors more than two months to design, contruct and paint.
The statue travelled from Top Gear's UK HQ through Amsterdam and Berlin to arrive in Poland for the big unveil.
Tim Davie, chief executive of BBC Worldwide and director of BBC Global, said: "The giant Stig erected in Warsaw is a fitting way to launch our new global brand BBC Brit. Our new channel will be the exclusive home of brand new Top Gear, the world’s most popular shows."
David Crosswell, lead sculptor on the project, added: "We took The Stig’s famous crossed arms pose as a starting point for creating the giant sculpture - but we also watched hours of Top Gear to capture his characteristics.
"He’s one of television’s most enigmatic figures, so it was a real challenge to capture this fearless but faceless test driver who is adored by fans all over the world."
