Event TV: Ford's educational Driving Skills for Life series

Event spoke with Howard Kee, advertising and events manager at Ford about the brand's Driving Skills for Life event, which took place at London's Excel from 20-22 November.

He said the automotive company came up with the educational events as it wanted to give something back. "As an automotive manufacturer we’re often marketing out to people and selling our cars to people, but it is great to give something back to the community – to be able to bring people in to be safer drivers, especially after they’ve just passed their test."

Kee noted that the sessions were aimed at the 18 to 24-year old age group, and Ford sought to equip new drivers with additional skills and training to help ensure they are safe when out on the roads.

"It is a free course that people can participate in, and we’ve had around about 300 people sign up for each of the sessions," he added.

He went on to talk Event through the different activities available to participants. These included skid control, where drivers experienced what it is like when a car loses control, and active city stop, which demonstrated the technologies that modern cars are equipped with.

The distraction activity sought to highlight what can happen when drivers become distracted, meanwhile the football game saw attendees kick a ball without and then with a 'drunk suit' to highlight the dangers of drink driving.

Another two tasks demonstrated the breaking capabilities of a modern vehicle, and finally a task in the centre of the large hall looked at the blind spots experienced by those driving large vehicles.
