The Event Supplier and Services Association (ESSA) has come to an agreement with the NEC over the testing of its new Plug and Play system.

The system gives organisers the option of using fixed sockets set into the under-floor ducts in the venue’s exhibition halls, rather than connecting to the mains supply with isolators and cables.

Both parties will take responsibility for the test, the NEC selecting the shows and ESSA setting the scope and framework of the measures.

The testing will take place over a three-month period and will "endeavour to take into account the maximum number of variables possible within a show", such as fully carpeted events, large and small shows, along with mixed plug and play and existing system installations.

"The results of the programme of trials will provide ESSA and the NEC with the information needed to find a mutually agreeable solution and a platform from which we can drive new and effective working practices," said ESSA director Chris Skeith.
