Emap rolls out Kerrang! to the North with digital station

LONDON - Emap's metal and rock Kerrang! radio network is continuing its spread across the UK as it launches seven further digital radio multiplexes across the north of England.

The new launches continue Emap Performance's strategy of growing national radio brands at a local level. Kerrang! digital radio is available nationally on Freeview and will now be available in London, the West Midlands, Yorkshire, the North East, North West and Scotland. The company claims that it will now cover two thirds of the UK.

The move comes as the government plans to announce a date for the switch from analogue to digital radio for the first time this year.

The expansion of the digital radio services comes just weeks after the launch of Kerrang! 105.2FM analogue station in the West Midlands.

Travis Baxter, managing director of the Kerrang! Radio Network, said: "A mature radio business needs to find ways to continue to grow and add value and Emap is doing this with the Kerrang! Radio Network."

Ofcom also recently announced that it is to issue 35 new FM licences. Emap has identified Manchester as another potential heartland for Kerrang! and will submit a bid once the licence is advertised. Emap has also revealed that it will submit bids for its Kiss and Magic radio brands.
