Emap posts losses of &pound;100m <BR>on sale of US division

LONDON - UK media group Emap reported first-half losses of £100m against a profit of £21m last time, after selling its US business at a significant loss, and warned of a difficult second half.

The pre-tax loss includes the one-off cost of £127m relating to the sale of Emap USA. However, the company said that, excluding that charge, pre-tax profits would have risen to £55m.

Emap, publisher of FHM and Mixmag, reported turnover up 3% to £456m and operating profit rose 5% to £77m based on the same calculations.

The company said growth prospects for the second half of the year would likely be as difficult as the first, although it expects to meet full-year expectations.
