The deal was brokered by design agency Empire Design and will see 'K-Pax', a psychological thriller starring Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges and distributed in the UK by FilmFour, promoted across Emap titles Empire and New Woman, their related websites and FHM.com.
Empireonline will host the official K-Pax site and, in return, will be promoted on 'K-Pax' marketing materials such as posters, TV and press ads.
The movie centres on a man calling himself Prot (Spacey) who arrives in New York claiming to be from the planet K-PAX. The police turn him over to psychiatrist Dr Mark Powell (Bridges) who seeks to uncover Prot's story.
Dan Robey, head of interactive at Empire Design, said: "Third-party promotions are becoming a critical part of the interactive design process, and we are driving traffic and interest in these films via creative media partnerships, which are clearly more effective than simple advertising banner deals."
'K-Pax' is released in the UK on Friday (April 12). It has been directed by Iain Softley, who also directed 'Wings of a Dove' and 'Backbeat'. It took $17.5m (£12.2m) in the first three days it opened in the US in October, according to figures from Screen International.
