Emap boosts cross-selling with management shake-up

LONDON - Emap Advertising is moving to strengthen cross-selling across its broadcast and magazine brands with a restructuring of the senior management of its sales operation.

The division, which sells across Emap consumer brands such as radio station Kiss FM and FHM, has hired John Judge, previously agency sales controller at Granada Enterprises, to head radio sales negotiations.

Judge steps into a new role created after the sideways move of David Hipkiss, who takes on the role of trading director across all platforms. He moves from his previous job as group account director for radio and will head up radio sales negotiations.

According to Judge: "I'm delighted to be joining Emap Advertising at such an exciting time for them and the radio industry. Emap's radio credentials are well known, but by adding more resources to the area of agency trading I feel confident we can deliver better service and results for our customers."

He will report directly into Tim Bleakley, broadcast sales director. On a day-to-day basis, Hipkiss will also report to Bleakley, however, ultimately he will report into the Emap Advertising board, which comprises managing director Dave King, Teresa Coligan, magazine sales director and Bleakley.

Hipkiss will now focus on negotiating aggregate deals across all Emap's radio, TV and print brands. Judge will concentrate on negotiating radio deals.

Tim Bleakley, broadcast sales director at Emap Advertising, said: "John has stood out over the years within ITV. He is customer-service and relationship focused and combines his great salesmanship well with strong grounding in broadcast trading. He's a great addition to the Emap Radio team and for the medium as a whole."

It is thought that a similar position could be created on the magazine side, to head up magazine sales negotiations, reporting to Coligan, although this has not been confirmed by Emap.
