Emap bolsters Kerrang! Radio with senior appointments

LONDON – Emap Performance is strengthening its Kerrang! radio business with the appointment of Emap stalwart Lynne Wood as managing director of its 105.2FM station.

Wood moves across from Emap 21, the media giant's training division, where she has been managing director since 1997.

Wood joined Emap in 1994 as managing director of City Radio. In her new role, Wood will head up the Birmingham-based team, which will launch Kerrang! 105.2FM.

Her appointment coincides with news that Emap is looking for a new managing director of Kerrang! Radio. Wood will report to the new managing director, but until then she will report in to director of digital Shaun Gregory.

The Birmingham licence is believed to be one of the most lucrative outside of London. Emap beat other rock propositions, including one from rival Virgin, backed by former Black Sabbath frontman and Brummie Ozzy Osbourne, and GWR's The Storm.

The appointment comes amid a series of changes at the company's music and men's division Emap Performance.

Last week, Emap's managing director of FHM Worldwide, Marcus Rich, was named as the new managing director of Emap Performance.

Rich, considered to be one of Emap's best publishers, will take up his new post in January 2004. He will be responsible for rock, pop and dance music magazines, including Smash Hits, Kerrang! and Q, as well as Performance Television and Performance Interactive.
